Objective #1 - Water Resources
a. I can explain all of the steps in the water cycle.
b. I can demonstrate and describe how water is distributed around the world.

Objective #1a - The Water Cycle
The objective says you need to explain all of the steps in the water cycle, so let's get acquainted with these steps!
1. Read about the water cycle from your book here. Only read p. 269. This is a very general description; just read this paragraph to get familiar with the general ideas about the water cycle.
2. Click here to go to a video about the water cycle (it does a GREAT job of explaining the steps to you in detail). Or, you can watch that same video below. While you're watching the video, TAKE NOTES on all of the steps of the water cycle. If you have earbuds, get them out and use them! If not, listen to the video with the volume on low. Feel free to pause and rewind the video as needed.
Having trouble playing or hearing the video? Read this article instead and take notes on the steps of the water cycle.

3. Go get a whiteboard, an eraser, and a marker. Draw a diagram of all of the steps of the water cycle you took notes on from the video. Label all parts of your diagram. Show your diagram to Mrs. E; this will be your first progress check for this objective!
Objective #1b - Water Distribution
Freshwater is a very limited resource, and that's why it is important to always take steps to conserve as much freshwater as possible. To show you just how limited our freshwater supplies are, check out the table below comparing the amounts of freshwater and saltwater:
Since the objective says you have to demonstrate AND describe how freshwater is distributed around the world, we will first work on that whole "demonstrate" part and then on the "describe" part.
1. Go grab a whiteboard, and eraser, and a marker. Using the freshwater data in the chart above, make a PIE CHART that represents how freshwater is distributed across the globe. Hint = a circle is 360 degrees..... (This is the "demonstrate" part of the objective)
2. When you're done making your pie chart, explain it in words underneath the chart. (This is that whole "describe" part of the objective)
3. When you're done demonstrating and describing, show your whiteboard to Mrs. E. This will be your first progress check for this objective!
4. Read p. 270-272 of your book by clicking here. Then, using ALL of the words below in such a way that you show what they are and how they are connected, describe how water is distributed around the world:
surface water, groundwater, watersheds, river systems, aquifers, icecaps and glaciers
Do this on your whiteboard and show it to Mrs. E when you're finished.

Objective #1 Progress Check
Take the progress check in Juno when Mrs. E tells you that you can.
