Objective #1: Energy Concepts
1a. I can differentiate between the forms and sources of energy.
1b. I can explain energy transformations and how energy flows within a system.
1c. I can state and apply the two laws of thermodynamics.

Objective #1a - Forms & Sources of Energy
1. Get the handout concerning the forms and sources of energy that Mrs. E hands out in class. Go to Google Classroom and find the Objective #1a two-column note assignment. Create a new Google Doc from that assignment and, using the handout, take two-column notes over JUST Objective #1a! Turn in your notes when you are finished - they are due on 4/21!
2. Do this interactive activity on your own, and add anything you need to add to your notes. Go get a progress check from Mrs. E about the forms of energy.
3. Go get a Secondary Energy Sourcebook from Mrs. E. Use pages 12-51 to answer the Energy Source questions you also got from Mrs. E.
4. Be prepared to show off your mad energy form and source skillz in a whiteboard progress check!

Objective #1b - Energy Transformations & Flow
1. Go back and re-read page #2 of the first handout you got (the one with four pages on it). While you're reading, focus on finding out how energy transformations occur.
2. Look at the Energy Transformations Diagram on page #2 of the handout. In your two-column notes for objective #1b, describe what energy transformations are. Then, explain ALL of the energy transformations pictured in the diagram.
3. Go to the site easel.ly and sign up for a free account. This site allows you to make infographics, which give people information about processes, stories, or data in a highly visual format. Your job is to make an infographic that does ALL of the things below:

- Shows the different forms and sources of energy
- Compare how we use the different forms of energy in the United States and in the world (this connects back to the sources of energy - what sources do different countries use?)
- How energy is transformed by giving several specific examples
- How energy flows through a system from the sun by using a specific energy transformation involving one of the energy sources. You need to think of an example of how we use an energy source, and trace it back to the sun by including ALL steps! You will have to do some research for this part.
Objective #1c - Laws of Thermodynamics
1. Go look up the following laws of thermodynamics using this amazing thing called Google:
First Law of Thermodynamics
Second Law of Thermdynamics
Copy what they are into your Objective #1 note sheet, being sure to add in Objective #1c in your right-hand column.
2. Look at what you copied. Make meaning of those copied definitions by rewriting them in your own words. Do that underneath each law in your notes.
3. Now that you've done the first part of the I can statement, we need to move on to the second part - applying it. To do that, do the following:
a) In a Google Doc, list 4 different energy transformations. They CANNOT be copied from the handout you got at the start of this objective or the internet! THINK YOUR OWN THOUGHTS.
b) Underneath each energy transformation, explain how, when that transformation occurs, the first and second laws of thermodymanics are at work. Give specific explanations!
c) Turn in your Google Doc to the correct assignment in Google Classroom when you are finished.
